We know you might feel a slight change in the weather. Perhaps it is starting to cool down for Fall’s introduction, or maybe it is just not as horrifically and uncharacteristically hot as it has been all summer. Either way, for those that are starting to panic at the thought of summer ending too quickly, we are here to assure you there is still time left! There is still time to get out there and do the bucket list of activities you hoped to enjoy in the warmer months. Time to take that last trip to the beach for a traditional day of sandy, family fun; Time to enjoy the water and embrace what summertime is – hot, sticky cookouts, cold drinks and memories to last a lifetime. There is still time to get in one of those iconic summertime moments that we dream about and hold onto in the bitter cold winter months.

Fortunately for Delaware residents and tourists, there are plenty of beaches to choose from when planning your final summer hurrah. Each beach offers its own set of unique characteristics, restaurants and shops. When you think of each destination, certain boutiques, bakeries or specialty stores come to mind. For Bethany Beach it may be the large 24 foot Totem Pole that sits at its main entrance. This is not the original statue that was erected in 1976, but is a replicate to stand in place of a landmark that has proudly stood in Bethany Beach for decades.  If not the totem pole, then maybe you think of Bethany’s boardwalk, vacation homes or delectable restaurants instead. Either way, Bethany Beach is certainly a top contender for those hoping to enjoy a beautiful day on the shore.

Bethany Beach, like Fenwick Island, is known as more of a quiet beach. While Bethany is home to a little over 1,000 people, it sees booming numbers of tourists each year – up to 15,000 per a summer! So although it may be small and a little more sedated than some beaches known for loud partying crowds, it is certainly a popular and appreciated spot. When visiting Bethany, here are some things to consider doing:

  • Boardwalk – Clean and family friendly, this boardwalk offers shops for beach items and plenty of opportunities for ice-cream. Visit the city’s website for events and shows at the Boardwalk’s own Band Stand to enjoy as you shop!

  • Bethany Bike Shop – Who doesn’t like a good bike ride while touring? Ride around town for a day or rent one for a week while you’re vacationing.

  • Indian River Inlet Bridge – Walk the separate pedestrian lane up this bridge and view the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Indian River Bay from the other.

  • Bear Trap Dunes – What’s a vacation without golfing? Enjoy tee time at Bethany’s own golf course with a stunning layout and lovely clubhouse.
